About Skin Peel Treatment

WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Chemical peels, sometimes referred to as skin peels, is a professional skin treatment where a chemical solution is applied to the skin to exfoliate away any damaged skin cells and reveal brighter, healthier skin. Chemical peels come in a variety of strengths, from superficial to deep, and different formulations of acids that can be used to treat a wide range of skin conditions. Superficial peels are more gentle and typically require less skin preparation with minimal downtime, however the deeper skin peels often require you to prepare your skin before the treatment, and may result in longer recovery time and more aftercare. Chemical peels can help treat conditions such as acne, scarring, pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture, sun damage, and dullness.

Questions About Skin Peels

CHEMICAL PEEL FAQs

  • The level of discomfort will vary depending on the strength of the peel you are having. Superficial or more gentle peels may result in a slight tingling sensation, whereas stronger, deeper peels may cause more discomfort. The peels are usually only applied for a few minutes so any discomfort is short lived.

  • Skin peels are typically very safe, provided you visit a suitably qualified practitioner. If your practitioner provides you with pre or post care instructions, it's important that you follow these as failure to do so could result in poor results.

  • The exact number of peels you need will depend on the type of peel you have and the skin concern(s) we are treating. You may see results after 1 treatment, however certain skin concerns such as acne or hyperpigmentation will see best results after a course of treatments accompanied by a thorough at home daily skin care routine.

  • Chemical peels are a daily quick treatment, usually they take 30-45 minutes.

  • Your skin may feel sensitive and you may experience redness or tingling following your skin peel. You may experience some dryness, and deeper peels can cause visible peeling of the skin - side effects will vary depending on the type of peel you’ve had.

  • Most people can experience great results from chemical peels, however there may be some limitations - melanin rich skin for example must be careful with deeper peels as they come with an increased risk of hyperpigmentation. Always double check with your practitioner and they will be able to recommend the most suitable chemical peel for your skin type and concern.

If you have an active infection at the treatment site, eczema, dermatitis, are currently taking roaccutane or other medications which increase skin sensitivity, or you are unable/unwilling to follow the aftercare then this may not be the right treatment for you.

  • Chemical peels can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including: acne, congestion, uneven texture, acne scarring, signs of ageing, fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, age spots, melasma, and dullness.

  • Frequency will vary depending on the type of peel. Some superficial peels can be performed every couple of weeks, whereas deeper peels with longer recovery times will require less frequent treatments.

Maisie is always on hand to offer advice or support if you have any questions following your procedure.
